Snowshoe, WV Ski Weekend
What a great weekend getaway to enjoy the outdoors as well as plenty of time to socialize old friends and make new ones?
Snowshoe Mountain is considered the finest ski destination in the Mid-Atlantic States. Snowshoe is about a 5.5 hr drive from Charlotte, NC.
I would like to arrive at the rental house by 3pm to sort out room assignments and get settled in. CONSIDER THE MISERABLE TRAFFIC ON I-77 AT THIS TIME OF DAY, please plan accordingly and be on time to the meeting location.
I may be leaving a bit earlier to get things arranged with the house rental. If this is the case, a co-leader will be identified to lead the carpool/caravan.
The total price for the house is fixed; the number of people on this adventure is variable. The 7BDR/4.5BA house has the following beds: (1) King, (3) Queens, (6) Bunk beds, (2) Queen Sleeper Sofas. This house advertises accommodation for 26, we will cap this event at 22. The minimum number for this trip to happen will be 16. If the trip doesn’t happen, your deposit of $80 will be refunded.
If we fill the house, the total will be $80pp and no additional cost will be incurred. If we only get 16, the cost will be $100/pp. I expect to be somewhere in between so plan on an amount somewhere in that range. I will notify everyone of the balance due in advance of the trip.
FYI- First deposits received will have first choice of bedding arrangements.
SATURDAY morning the first lifts open at 9am. A full-day permit is valid until 4:30p. We are still thinking about dinner. We may make reservations at a local pub in the village or put together a group dinner at the house. More details to come as the event date approaches. After, you can then hang out in the village or head back to the house. I am not designating a “quiet time,” but we need to be courteous to our fellow housemates.
SUNDAY morning will be up to you. Snowshoe does not offer ½ day lift tickets. So, we can experience another fine ske resort on the drive home. WInterplace is about 3 hrs from Charlotte. If Saturday skiing wasn’t enough for you, plan on getting a ½ day lift ticket at WINTERPLACE which is on the way home and good from 1p-5p. Regardless of your Sunday plans, please make sure you have an agreement with the same people in your carpool (likewise if you would like to head back to Charlotte early). We need to be out of the house no later than 11am.
Skiing rates for the weekend are as follows (payable at the mountain):
Friday twilight: $38
Saturday Full-day: $75 (maybe $65, working on rate)
Sunday 1/2 day @ Winterplace: $30
If you need to rent equipment, I would highly suggest Ski Country Sports at Park Road Shopping Center. You can rent from them for the entire weekend what the resort would charge you for each session. See details at www.skicountrysports.com/Charlotte/rentalrates.asp. You can pick up your equipment anytime after 4p on Thursday.
Snowshoe, WV is a reasonable drive from OH, PA, VA, and MD. Guests are welcome. I plan on inviting some friends from Pittsburg and Columbus. What a great location to mix it up with our friends from Charlotte and the north. This is an adult only event.
