The 30.1 mile Art Loeb Trail is one of the longer and more difficult trails in the state, and it`s also one of the more popular. This trail is a memorial to Art Loeb an activist from the Carolina Mountain Club, and a man who "deeply loved these mountains." Traveling mainly along peaks and ridges rather than in the valleys, the trail offers many views along the way to its lofty high points. It skirts along the southwestern rim of the Davidson River valley, then skips across some of the highest peaks in the area before descending Cold Mountain to the Daniel Boone Scout Camp. Along the way, you`ll see some of the finest scenery to be found in Pisgah and you`ll view or cross many of the landmark mountains in the region. . However you hike this trail you will find yourself on the trail, it`s one you`re sure to enjoy.
We will hike this trail from North to South starting form the East fork river( out of car logistic convenience),this will add about 3/4 of a mile to the trail for a mileage closmileage32.
Be ready to hike for 9 to 10 hours in extreme conditions. This is not a race but I hike, never the less running may be necessary .You will have to carry all you may need for this 32 miles, there will be not aid stations, this is "pure and real" hiking in the wild. Each man/woman carry their own load. (not free-loading here) Only sign up for this event if you feel good about the above statement and are willing to take responsibility for the outcome of it.
